About
It all started …
In 2019 before boarding the train the founder, Nikita Nicholson, said a prayer asking God to show her a sign about starting Ladie Business. Once she boarded the train, a homeless woman didn't ask for anything else, but a sanitary pad. She received a few feminine hygiene products from women on the train, but not enough to last her for menstrual cycles to come. Although it was disheartening seeing this sign from God brought Nikita great joy. It pushed her to do something about the lack of feminine hygiene products for homeless and low-income women. With the help of her family and friends, she began to prepare kits filled with feminine hygiene products (pads, tampons, and feminine wipes) and handed them out to shelters and homeless women on the streets of NYC.
Here at Ladie Business, we believe that women should not go without feminine hygiene products just because circumstances prohibit access to them. According to the article “Menstruating While Homeless 2018” the author Aishwarya Bhattacharya states, " Menstruation, for most of us, tends to be an annoyance, accompanied by uncomfortable cramps, mood swings, bloating, etc. But for someone who is homeless, periods can be an embarrassment, a lost opportunity, a missed meal, and a health risk." Women should not have to use any material they can find in replacement for a pad or tampon. We are here to bring change to the taboo topic of menstruation by providing thousands of women with the proper care they need during their cycles. Feminine Hygiene products are not a luxury; they are a necessity that every woman deserves.
