How to Safely Give Back for the Holiday Season During the Pandemic

The holiday season is right around the corner and, boy, do we need it after the year we’ve all had! The holidays are all about family, quality time, happiness and warmth. We are definitely due for some joy and peace this year; however, we still should not ignore the ones who can’t use the holidays as a distraction from the reality of what’s going on in the world. There are plenty of ways you can safely give back during this holiday season with minimal contact. Here are a few examples:

1. Buy Lunch for Essential Workers: Essential workers have always been important, but this year they have literally been our angels. From nurses to supermarket employees, essential workers have sacrificed a lot to help as much as they can throughout these troubling times. A great way to show your support can be buying some of them lunch during work! It saves them money and it also will give them a little holiday cheer if they are stuck at work during the holidays! You can either quickly drop it off at the front desk or get it delivered to them!

2. Add Donations to Your List for Santa: A great way to get many of your friends and family to donate is by asking for donations instead of a gift! They can either give the money to you so that you can donate to your choice charity, or they can donate to their choice charity in your name. This can all simply be done electronically. The money can be sent to you through Venmo, Quick Pay, Cash App, etc. If they decide to donate under your name, most charities allow you to donate online!

3. Send Holiday Cards to Children’s Hospitals: Spread the holiday cheer by either making your own holiday cards or purchasing them and writing a nice message for children in the hospital. Something like this would be great to involve your own kids if you decide to make your own cards. Mail them out to your choice children’s hospital!

4. Donation Drop Offs: Donation drop offs are always a great idea. There are charities that take toys, canned foods, basic necessities, etc. Many of these places have drop off locations that requires minimal contact. Just leave your package at the designated drop off spot and someone from the charity will pick it up!
